Selection of applicants

Selection criteria
After the deadline, the Secretariat forwards the applications to a three-member Evaluation Committee appointed by the Departmental Assembly. The Evaluation Committee will examine the complete file of each candidate and may request any supporting documents not submitted or additional information. The Evaluation Committee checks the formal qualifications of the candidates, invites the candidates for an interview and proceeds to draw up an evaluation table with detailed marks for the successful and runners-up of the MSc, taking into account the following criteria:

  • The overall degree grade, with a weighting factor of 30%,
  • The grade in the undergraduate courses relevant to the subject matter of the MSc, with a weighting factor of 20%,
  • Any published research work, additional degrees or postgraduate qualifications of the candidate, with a weighting factor of 10%,
  • Any professional activity, with a weighting of 10%,
  • Performance during the oral interview, with a weighting of 30%.

Selection procedure

On the basis of the criteria laid down, the Evaluation Committee will draw up the Evaluation List of candidates in accordance with the following procedure:

  1. The Evaluation Committee will invite the candidates to an oral interview in person or by videoconference, which will be aimed at:
  • The identification of specific skills and other characteristics and, more generally, the make-up of the candidate’s personality.
  • The identification of particularities and other elements which the candidate possesses and which may play a role in his/her smooth integration into the programme.

2. The members of the Evaluation Committee evaluate each candidate individually and give him/her a score on a scale of 0 to 10. The candidate’s performance in the oral interview is the average of the marks given by the members of the Evaluation Committee.
3. The final mark for each candidate is the sum of the product of each criterion and the corresponding weighting factor.
In the event of a tie, the candidate with the highest degree in basic studies will be selected.
4. The evaluation committee shall submit the evaluation table to the Assembly for approval.
The evaluation table approved by the Assembly is posted on the website of the MSc in the care of the MSc Secretariat. 5. Any objections of the candidates shall be submitted to the MSc Secretariat within five (5) days from the date of the announcement of the results.
6. Objections shall be examined by a three-member objections committee composed of members of the teaching staff, appointed by the Assembly.
7. The objections committee shall make a recommendation to the Assembly on the objections submitted.
8. The Assembly decides on the acceptance or not of the proposals, declares the admitted (successful) postgraduate students and the runners-up and the Secretariat of the MSc ensures the posting of the final list on the website of the MSc.
9. Within five (5) working days from the announcement of the results, the successful candidates are invited to respond in writing to the Secretariat of the MSc regarding their acceptance or not of their admission to the MSc, by submitting a declaration of admission. Failure by a selected candidate to respond within the prescribed deadline is equivalent to a resignation from the candidature. In exceptional cases, which must be adequately documented by the selected candidate, the Assembly may accept a late application for admission to the MSc if the candidate provides evidence of circumstances that objectively prevented him/her from submitting the application for admission to the MSc in time. In the case of resignations or failure to submit the declaration of admission on time, the Secretariat of the MSc informs the next (runner-up) in the evaluation order of the relevant list, who occupy the vacant places.
