Postgraduate students enrolled in the third semester of studies undertake to prepare a thesis in collaboration with a lecturer of the MSc. The thesis may be of research or technical content and must have a sufficient degree of originality or demonstrate a good knowledge and in-depth understanding of a specific topic of current research or technical interest.
During the second semester of studies, the Secretariat of the MSc announces a list of proposed thesis topics, which is created from the recommendations of the MSc lecturers and which describe topics of current research interest, relevant to their scientific subject. Each lecturer of the MSc must propose at least two (2) topics per course of study.
Upon renewal of registration for the third semester, the postgraduate student shall select and declare one (1) of the topics in subsection 2 to the Coordinating Committee for approval.
The supervisor and the other two members of the Examination Committee must be members of the teaching staff of the MSc. The members of the Committee must have the same or a related scientific specialisation as the subject of the thesis.
Each member of the teaching staff of the MSc may supervise up to four (4) theses or more by decision of the Assembly.
A prerequisite for the evaluation of the thesis is the successful completion of all courses of the MSc, i.e. those offered in the first and second semesters of study.
Theses are submitted for assessment twice per academic year on dates determined by the Assembly. The evaluation shall take place in a public presentation, which shall be announced by the MSc Secretariat on the MSc website.
The theses, if approved by the examination committee, are obligatory posted on the website of the School of Engineering of the Institution.
